Mike Richmond of Richmond Event Management (REM) was awarded ‘Event Manager of the Year’ for the second consecutive year!
This recognised the work he and his team carried out in 2006 including a series of events around the country. Most notably, Mike worked with VT Shipbuilding to create the concept and deliver a spectacular naming ceremony for a Royal Navy offshore patrol vessel, HMS Clyde.
The event took place in HM Naval base Portsmouth, adjacent to the VT Shipbuilding complex, and was especially significant as this was the first ship to be completely constructed in Portsmouth for 40 years.
VT Group appointed REM to produce the event, incorporating a VIP function for 1,200 guests in a purpose built structure. REM coordinated specialist projection with accompanying audio, effects lighting, pyrotechnics, lasers and the band of the Royal Marines performing on the helicopter deck.
The story depicted the character of the ship and the people associated with its history, with animations highlighting the high tech nature of new vessels.
Earlier in the year REM were instrumental in delivering the climax to the Brunel 200 celebrations in Bristol and went on to produce and manage events in Portsmouth, London, Jersey and Glasgow.
After collecting his award, Mike commented: “It is always great to be recognised amongst fellow professionals. I am very lucky to have the opportunity to work on such exciting events and to have a long-standing team around me who between them represent an expertise that can work miracles. Clients choose the venue and ‘open’ the EventWise Party Box. They are then free to choose from a range of additional activities within a ‘tool box’ containing entertainers, chocolate fountains, bands etc.
