Following the decision by the Health & Safety Executive to focus their new event safety guide around health and safety only, the Events Industry Forum has taken the decision to produce its own comprehensive Event Safety Guide. The Forum, for which TESA Director Jim Winship acts as secretary, is putting together an editorial team that will be tasked with pulling together all the work that has already been done by the working groups originally set up to draft a new Purple Guide. Their role will be to collate and cross-reference the information. Parameters are being set up for the group to work within but it is hoped the new guide will be published (at least in part) before the 2012 London Olympics. In the meantime, the Forum is continuing to work with the HSE to help them produce their guidance. TESA is supporting the initiative as it has long believed there is a need for a comprehensive and up-datable guide for event organisers to replace the old Purple Guide. The new EIF guidance, which will be produced in consultation with Government bodies (including the HSE) will be web based so that it can readily be kept up to date. A full consultation process will be followed on the EIF Guidance. |
